Experts say that there has been a tremendous increase in the popularity of gardening over the last few years, particularly with baby boomers. For many of us, the scent of an Avanti cigar and fresh cut grass has become permanently embedded in our memories. There’s nothing quite like sitting back with your favorite Avanti smoke and enjoying your garden handy work.
Although many people’s busy schedules seem to have gotten in the way of keeping a perfectly manicured lawn, there has been a resurgence of individuals who look forward to giving their properties the TLC they deserve. As smoking cigars outside has become the norm for most, some by choice, the two passions have seemingly grown closer than ever before.
Much like cigars, gardening has made quite a comeback. This is in part due to timing, as so many of us spend the earlier part of our lives concentrating on our families and our careers. With age, however, also comes the opportunity to focus our attention to activities that simply make us feel good.
Whether you are already an avid gardener, or thinking about starting out, there are a few things you can do to keep your garden and landscaping on the right track.
- Don’t rely strictly on blooming plants to bring beauty to your garden. There are a lot of other ways to increase your garden’s longevity year round. Consider adding permanent structures like benches or a water feature so that you have something to enjoy outdoors when your bloomers aren’t in season.
- Variety is the spice of life and the same goes for your garden. Look into the wide variety of local species available and don’t afraid to mix things up a bit. Try to select bloomers that will show during multiple seasons so you can get the maximum amount of color to enjoy.
- Consider container planting if taking care of a large space seems daunting. Container gardening is a fantastic way to enjoy this pastime regardless of where you live. Perfect for apartment dwellers or country folk, container gardening could be the perfect solution if you’d like to start of slow.
- Show your colors. Choose plants and foliage that represent who you are and what you like. Learning to express yourself through gardening will make you enjoy your outdoor space all the more.
