If you’re currently retired or just thinking about making the leap, chances are you’ve put a lot of thought and consideration into what you’ll do with all that extra time. Many people underestimate how difficult it can be to do the same activities (or no activities) day in and day out, so we’ve decided to put a list together to give you some inspiration.
1. Travel the World
Okay, we realize not everyone can just pick up and head to Venice or Paris, but remember, the world is all around you! Start off small and make a list of attractions in your area that you’ve never had the time to see. For example, you’d be very surprised to find out how many people live within an hour of New York City and have never seen the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, or Rockefeller Center.
2. Remodel Your Home
This is one of the most popular things people do when they retire, and for good reason. After being so busy for so many years with work, kids, and family, there is likely a good number of home repairs that haven’t been given your attention. Retirement is a great time to give your home a little TLC, and the busy work will certainly pay off.
There are a lot of wonderful organizations located right in your area desperately in need of help. Find one that is interesting to you and reach out … by giving just a little bit of your free time the rewards you receive will be greater by ten fold.
4. Go Back to School
It’s never to late for higher education. If you’ve ever dreamed of getting your degree, or are simply interested in expanding your knowledge on a particular topic, retirement gives you the perfect opportunity to do so.
5. Take on a New Hobby
Retirement is a great time to do some of things you always wanted to do but never had the time. Camping, boating, playing cards, and fishing are some of the most popular hobbies among our fellow retired Avanti lovers.
